Hello and happy Sunday! Hope you all have had a great weekend so far. If you tried to visit the blog yesterday and weren’t able to see the website, I am very sorry. I had some issues with my server, but everything appears to be back up and running again. Yay!

James and I have been laying low this weekend which has been kinda nice – the past few weekends have been pretty busy, so it’s nice to have some down time.

Last weekend my mom was here visiting, and we had so much fun! It was so good to see her, and we had some great mother – daughter time. Last time my family was here we explored Dallas, so this time we went to Fort Worth and visited the Stockyards. James and I had been before, but just briefly. This time we were able to actually explore and take our time looking around. Very cool!

San Antonio Adventure

Hello! Hope you all had a great Memorial Day Weekend. James and I both had Monday off, so we took advantage of the long weekend and drove down to San Antonio for a little adventure. I didn’t really know what to expect—I still think of Texas as a huge desert, even though that’s really not the case—but San Antonio was really nice! The city itself was quite old, with lots of history around every corner. I am a huge history lover, so I really appreciated all the old buildings and stories that went along with them. There is also an amazing thing called The River Walk, which is basically a three-mile long pathway through the city along the river, with shops, restaurants and plenty of nature. It was so cool! James and I spent a lot of time walking up and down the river, browsing through various street vendors, and were even able to take a boat tour down the river.

Happy Easter!

Hello! I hope you all are having a great Easter weekend so far! Have anything fun planned? We are just going to be laying low, going to church and relaxing for the most part. I think it’s supposed to be kind of stormy this weekend, but hopefully I’ll be able to get an outdoor run in at some point!

If you haven’t tuned in to History Channel’s The Bible I would encourage you to do so…the finale is this Sunday, and I’m sure it will be great. So far I have really enjoyed the series—it has been quite accurate for the most part, and the acting has been great.

The past couple of days I have been reading in Matthew about Jesus’s betrayl, trial, death and resurrection. I always like to read this portion of scripture around Easter weekend, and reflect on what Christ did for me when he died on the cross for my sins.

He didn’t have to die. He didn’t even have to come to Earth in the first place…but he chose to. Because he loves us. He paid the ultimate prtice for our sins in dying on the cross, and we should never take that for granted. This is something we need to be thankful for daily—not just on Easter weekend. It can be easy to forget about his sacrifice in the business of our daily lives, but that is not an excuse to do so. Remember his sacrifice each and everyday, and be thankful for what he has done for us. Because without Jesus, we would be lost forever.

Thank you Jesus for loving me enough to come to Earth and pay the ultimate price for my sins. When you died on that cross, you not only made it possible for me to experience eternal life, but also to have an intimate, personal relationship with you. Help me never to take this for granted. Thank you for your sacrifice—today and every other day of the year. I love you. Amen.

Hello and Happy New Year! I’m so sorry it’s been such a long time since my last post…the last couple weeks have been crazy. Crazy, but definitely fun! James’ parents and sister [plus a couple of her friends] drove down to see us for Christmas, and stayed until New Years Day. We had so much fun exploring Dallas, and just spending some quality family time with them. Christmas was great…we cooked a big meal in the apartment [which turned out great, thankfully], and then it started to snow! Being from Michigan, I love my white Christmases, so the few inches of snow we received on Christmas day was a huge blessing. It made being away from home much easier.

During their visit we also went to a few malls in the area to do some after Christmas shopping, went to the Dallas World Aquarium [which is excellent—I would definitely recommend it], explored the city, and of course hit up a few local restaurants. Overall, it was a great week:)

Now, it’s back to the daily grind. I am happy to report that I officially finished reading through the Bible in one year! This was a goal I made at the beginning of last year, so it’s really exciting that I actually followed through with the reading. I learned so much from reading through the Bible that I am going to do it again. I found this great website which lists a variety of different reading plans, including different versions and start days. If you’re interested in joining me, it’s not too late! I am doing the NIV plan which started on January 1^st and goes from beginning to end. I may switch it up a little and read something from the Old Testament and New Testament each day, just for a little variety. There is a plan for this as well—the Old/New plan. Whichever way you choose, I hope you follow along! Reading through the Bible in a year is a great goal—one that you will definitely benefit from everyday.

That being said, I am going to continue to post devotions as often as possible during the week based on what I have been reading in scripture. I also have some new and exciting ideas to make the more interesting, so be looking for those changes/additions over the next few weeks here. Also, if there is anything specific you would like to see included in the blog, let me know! I always love your feedback.

Merry Christmas!

Good Morning! Hope you all are having a great start to your long weekend! Seriously, I can’t believe that it is almost Christmas. My mind is stuck somewhere back in August, and for some reason cannot come to terms with the fact that today is December 22^nd. Where did the time go? Craziness I tell you.

I just wanted to let you all know that I probably won’t be posting much over the next week [if at all]. James’ parents and sister are coming in to town on Sunday night, so I’m probably not going to have a lot of time to blog…which is okay. We are excited to see them! So, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas if I don’t talk to you before then. Have fun with your families and loved ones, eat lots of yummy Christmas cookies, drink some eggnog [if your in to that sort of thing], and don’t forget the true reason we celebrate Christmas—the birth of Jesus!

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place whileQuirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,  and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.”

Insecurities.

Hello! So it’s been a few days since my last post…I was out of town this past weekend visiting family in Michigan. My aunt and uncle were in from New Zealand, so James and I went up to visit them, my parents, and my brother. We all went up to Northern Michigan and visited Traverse City, Leland, Crystal Lake, and eventually we ended up on Mackinaw Island for a few days.

Anyways, while I was away I finished Isaiah and started on Jeremiah. One of the first passages in Jeremiah really stuck out to me, so I thought I would share…

(this is right after God has called Jeremiah to speak to many people)

“Ah, Sovereign Lord,” I (Jeremiah) said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 1:6-8

Jeremiah was feeling insecure about the job God had given him to do. He didn’t think he was adequately prepared to speak to many people, and he let his insecurities get in the way. He believed the lies telling him that he wasn’t good enough for the task at hand. Fortunately, God stepped in and told him not to be afraid, and not to let his insecurities get in the way.

How often do we let our insecurities get in the way of doing what God has called us to do? We may not feel totally comfortable with the situation, so we back out—convincing ourselves that we did the right thing. How much more could we accomplish if we weren’t afraid or insecure? I’m thinking quite a lot. Even if we are afraid of doing what God has called us to do, we need to trust in him to get us through. We need to rely on his strength instead of our own, and be courageous and fearless in the face of our insecurities. We are bigger than the obstacles we put in our own way. Trusting in God and relying on his power and strength is the most important thing we can do. Just as the Lord told Jeremiah that he would rescue him, so to will he rescue us from our fears and insecurities.

What about you? Is there anything in your life that you feel you should be doing, but have always been afraid to start? Turn your fears and insecurities over to God, and trust in him to help you.

One Year

Well…not exactly one year today, but on June 18th James and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary!!! It’s hard to believe its already been a year, but I have loved EVERY minute of it…and am looking forward to many more years to come:) A lot has happened over the past year. We’ve moved twice. Started a business together. Traveled to some cool places. And ultimately, have grown closer to each other and to God. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in this coming year!

Welcome! Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Sarah, and I’m just a regular, (semi) normal twenty-something girl…with big passions and a lot of crazy ideas. I am truly passionate about God, and love to encourage and uplift people in His name.

I also love to write, and have wanted to start a blog for quite some time now, but just haven’t gotten around to it…until now. I guess you could say that each time I started blogging, I inevitably ran into what I like to call writers block. The words just wouldn’t come. Or if they did, they were all jumbled and made no sense to anyone but myself. Each time this happened I would pray about it, and kept feeling God telling me to hold off for awhile..it wasn’t the right timing.

This time is different.

I really feel God’s blessing on my blog this time around, and am so excited to get started!

I want to share my life with you. The ups. The downs. And everything in between. I want you to know that I am a real person, with real struggles and real issues, just like everyone else. I also want to discuss the things God has placed on my heart to share with you.

Let me back up and explain. Since the beginning of 2012, I have been reading a little bit of the Bible each day in the hopes of finishing the whole thing by the end of the year. Let me tell you, it has been an awesome experience. If you have never read through the Bible in its entirety, I challenge you to do so. I thought I knew everything about the Bible, but I am learning something new each and every day as God gives me new and fresh revelation on old stories I never thought possible.

As I read, I like to journal about what God reveals to me through certain passages and stories. Through God’s prompting, it occurred to me that maybe I should start sharing these new insights with all of you out here in blog-land. That maybe you would benefit from the things I am reading and learning just as much as I am.

My hope is that this blog will encourage and uplift you, as well as challenge you to be the best person you can be. You see, I believe God has a special and unique calling in each of our lives, and that we find purpose and fulfillment in this calling. Maybe you’ve found your calling, or maybe you’re still looking.

Wherever you are in life, I challenge you to read along. We’re all on a journey, and can definitely all use some encouragement at some point. So sit back, enjoy some encouragement, and most importantly remember to give all of the glory and honor to the one who makes everything possible.
