Have you ever had something that you really want to do, but have always been afraid to start? Or maybe there is something you want to see changed in your life, yet you can’t find the strength to actually make the change. I think this is a fairly common feeling, and something that I have frequently experienced. As soon as my heart begins to muster the courage for such a task, my head decides it is not a good idea—thus defeating that little bit of strength I was able to come by. Lately I’ve been feeling this way. Like there is a constant struggle between what my heart and head are telling me—each seem to have their own idea of what’s best.
It goes something like this. Generally my heart is telling me to follow the dreams and passions God has placed inside me, while my head is constantly weighing out the reasonability of following said dreams and passions. Is it safe? Would it be worth it? Am I really good enough at it? You will probably fail. Those are the sorts of things that go on inside my head. Like I said, constant struggle. When you think about it, those types of questions and statements aren’t really fair. How much can my head actually know about the things I have always been afraid to start?
Let me clarify. I’m not saying it’s a good idea to throw all caution to the wind, and follow every single dream in your heart. Dreams require some planning and preparation in order to come true, and no one achieves their dreams overnight—it takes time. But, what I am saying is don’t let you head get in the way of what your heart is trying to tell you. If you feel like God is directing you down a certain path, or creating an idea inside your heart, by all means follow his guidance. Don’t be afraid of what others might think, or of what your head is telling you. Most of the time God speaks through our hearts more clearly than through our heads anyways.
Just because you’ve never done something before doesn’t mean you have to be afraid of starting it. And don’t believe those lies that are going on inside your head—the ones telling you that you aren’t good enough, or that you’ll never make it. They just simply aren’t true. If God has placed something on you heart to do, then do it. Don’t think about it too much—it will cause doubt and fear to creep into your mind. God gives us creative ideas, dreams and passions for a reason—he wants us to achieve them. Don’t give in to fear and doubt. Trust in the abilities God has given you, and rely on his strength working through you in order to accomplish your goals and achieve your dreams.
Just something that has been on my mind this week. Hope you all are having a great week so far and enjoying these last few weeks of summer! God Bless:)
