“If we let ourselves, we shall always be waiting for some distraction or other to end before we can really get down to our work. The only people who achieve much are those who want knowledge so badly that they seek it while the conditions are still unfavorable. Favorable conditions never come.”
C.S. Lewis
Do you ever feel like you’re supposed to do something, but you hold back because the timing just doesn’t seem right? Maybe in a week, a month, or a few years the timing will be just perfect and the stars will align for you to launch yourself into your ultimate life dream. But at the moment, you just can’t seem to figure out how to make that dream a reality. The timing isn’t ideal, yet you remain hopeful that someday in the future, the timing will be perfect to chase your dream relentlessly.
While I do think there are times when the timing isn’t necessarily right, and we need to be sensitive to what God is telling each of us individually, more often than not, “the timing just isn’t right” is used as an excuse to postpone instead of a promise to fulfill in the future. If we continually say that the timing isn’t right, how can we know for certain that it ever will be? Maybe it will never really “feel” right, but we need to take that step of faith into the unknown regardless of how we feel, trusting that God will lead us and guide us as we pursue the dreams he has planted in our hearts. The enemy will use everything in his power to keep us from reaching our destinies, including the words, “the timing just isn’t right,” or, “maybe in a few years I’ll have enough courage to go after that dream.”
If it’s something you feel called to do, and there is no serious reason for you to put it off, then go for it with all you’ve got. If you don’t let go of the idea that the timing isn’t right, you’ll never be able to accomplish your dreams and goals. Accept that the conditions will never be completely ideal, and move on as best you can. Slow, forward moving direction is better than no movement at all. I think it would be better to reach the end of my life and look back at the things I did do, even though I may have made a few mistakes along the way, instead of the ones I was too afraid to try – because the timing wasn’t ideal.
Is there something that you’ve been putting off? Something that you’ve always dreamed of doing, yet the timing just has never seemed right? Pray about it. Ask God to give you the courage to step out in faith amidst unfavorable conditions, and go after that dream of yours with everything you’ve got!
