Hello! Hope you all are having a great Monday so far. For some reason, I just can’t seem to wake up today. I think it must be from the cloudy weather and all the rain we had over the weekend. Other than that though, Monday is going well!
I’ve been thinking a lot about distractions, and how often I don’t recognize them for what they are. Actually, I think that is how they work best – if we can’t recognize them, it becomes harder to avoid them. Throughout my life I’ve had many different things I’ve wanted to accomplish, goals I wished to achieve. I guess you could say I’ve been a little bit indecisive. It’s always been hard for me to focus on just one thing when there are so many different things I could be doing. Probably why I changed my major so many times during college I suppose.
Anyway, I’m starting to realize the importance of focusing on only one goal at a time, and the small steps that are required to reach that goal. But when there are so many great opportunities out there, how do I decide which goal is really the one that I want to pursue? How do I focus my attention in on that one area, so much so that everything else seems to fade into the background, becoming increasingly less important?
Know what I’m talking about?
First, you need to figure out what it is that you are deeply passionate about, that dream that burns within you, and once you find it, cling to it. Let all the other lesser goals and opportunities fade away, regardless of how good they may be. You’ll know when you find that one dream your heart won’t let go of because you won’t be able to feel satisfied or whole unless it is achieved. It’s that one thing that will cause giddy excitement and nervous energy to simultaneously bubble up from within your heart, and you won’t be able to contain it.
Then, once you’ve determined your goal, focus in on it. Say no to other opportunities for the time being, even if they are good ones; because you’ll never be able to accomplish what matters most to you if you are spread out too thinly between various projects. You won’t be able to focus on your dream long enough to see it come into fruition. I’m all about multi-tasking, but when it comes to accomplishing your deepest, most important dream, focusing on too many things at once will cause your attention to shift and be lost in the process.
So, I guess this is more for me than anyone, but the key factor here is to focus on what matters most. Don’t allow yourself to be spread too thin. Stop trying to come up with new goals before you accomplish the one that matters most to you. Forget about the times you might have failed at certain tasks or goals in the past – choose not to dwell on them. Learn from your mistakes, and move on. Don’t allow distractions to creep into your life, even if they are disguised as good, solid endeavors. Just don’t do it – say no. Focus on what matters most.
Okay, that last bit kind of turned into a rant – sorry about that. Can you relate? Do you have a hard time focusing on your goals and dreams? What do you do to help keep your focus? I’d love to hear your strategies!

I needed to hear this message since I am very much a multi tasker. I guess this is due to the fact that I am a mom and work full-time, etc etc. My main focus is always my family tho and they have top priority! I have had to learn to say no to other ‘opportunities’ and that can be difficult…actually tho it was/is kind of ‘freeing’.
