Good Morning and Happy Thursday! Hope you all are having a great day so far. James and I were up late last night decorating for Christmas/ watching Christmas movies, so I am a little bit sleepy this morning. Nothing that a few cups of coffee can’t cure:) We had to put our little fake tree up on the bar in our kitchen so Samson wont knock it over/destroy it. At least with it up higher the tree looks a bit taller than 4 feet…oh the little things in life. So, I started reading in Galatians this morning, and I came across this verse…
“Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Galatians 1:10
To me, this verse is a major reality check. It’s easy to dismiss it, telling ourselves that of course we try to please God over people—but do we really? Do we really not care what others think of us because we are so concerned with pleasing God first and foremost? If I had to guess, I would say we could all use some improvement in this category to some extent—me included. It’s hard to dismiss what others think of us, and turn our attention completely towards God. Were human—we want others to like us. Not that it’s bad if people like us, but we shouldn’t be purposely pleasing people at God’s expense. We shouldn’t be so focused on pleasing the people in our lives that we loose sight of what God has for us.
Life is not a popularity contest, and trust me, you will never be able to please everyone in your life, no matter how hard you try. So, instead of focusing on what others want you to do, shift your focus towards what God wants for you. After all, his opinion is the only one that really matters in the end. Focus on pleasing God, and you can’t go wrong.
This verse was definitely a good reminder for me this morning—hope you got something out of it to! I’m off to work—be back tomorrow with some Friday Favorites. God Bless:)
